The Diamondbacks have officially designated first baseman Pavin Smith for assignment, ending what may be a near-decade tenure with the organization after being drafted 7th overall in 2017. Rookie outfielder Ryan Waldschmidt has been recalled from Triple-A Reno to fill his roster spot. Smith never built on his promising 2021 debut or a nine-homer stretch in 2024, and the move signals Arizona is moving on from the left-handed bat.
