Buxton Targeting Offseason Hip Surgery After Sixth IL Stint
The Twins star has been sidelined nine days with right hip impingement and says injections are no longer managing the chronic condition.
Byron Buxton has landed on the IL three times since early July due to a recurring right hip impingement, and he now expects to require surgery after the season. He told the Minnesota Star-Tribune that injections have stopped providing relief after years of managing the issue. Buxton was on an MVP-caliber pace before the hip flared July 5, slashing .271/.328/.525 with 25 home runs in 335 plate appearances. Since that flare-up he has batted just .172/.274/.203 in 73 plate appearances, and top prospect Walker Jenkins has taken over in center field.
