Nelson's own availability comes with caveats. He returned from a flexor strain that kept him out for nearly three months, and he is not fully stretched out. His three rehab appearances in early September covered one inning, one inning, and one inning and two-thirds, respectively. Since being activated, he has made two big-league appearances, each lasting an inning and a third. Zac Gallen, also recently reinstated from the injured list, has thrown at least three innings in each of his past two outings, though he carries a 6.12 ERA this season.
