Milner, 35, has been on the IL since June after undergoing an appendectomy and was nearing the end of his 30-day rehab assignment limit. Chicago signed him to a one-year, $3.75MM deal this offseason; he posted a 3.53 ERA in 35.2 innings before the injury. If unclaimed, he could remain with the Cubs, but the move signals the organization may not plan to reactivate him.
