The Cardinals officially announced an eight-year extension with rookie infielder JJ Wetherholt worth $112.5MM guaranteed, with performance bonuses that could push the total to $132MM. The deal runs through 2034 and buys out three free agent years. At $112.5MM guaranteed, it ranks among the largest contracts in Cardinals history, behind only the Paul Goldschmidt and Matt Holliday deals. Wetherholt, 23, was the seventh overall pick in the 2024 draft and rose quickly through the minors.
