Jack Leiter, already recovering from arthroscopic ankle surgery performed in late June, suffered a new setback when biceps soreness appeared during a rehab outing with Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday. Manager Skip Schumaker confirmed the Rangers are temporarily shutting Leiter down and will reevaluate in the coming days. The injury dims hopes of a September return and complicates plans that already included potentially using him as a reliever. Texas is also without Nathan Eovaldi, who has been on the IL with elbow inflammation since August 9, leaving the rotation thin.
