Mattingly Named Phillies Full-Time Manager After Search Ends
Philadelphia confirmed Don Mattingly as permanent skipper after Chase Utley, Raul Ibanez, and Alex Cora all passed on the job.
The Phillies concluded their managerial search by officially promoting Don Mattingly, who had been serving as interim manager since Rob Thomson was fired on April 28. The team had formally sought permission to speak with Dodgers employees Chase Utley and Raul Ibanez, both of whom declined. Alex Cora was also considered but is planning to take a year away from managing. Mattingly posted a 79-55 record as interim, helping Philadelphia finish 88-74 and secure a fifth consecutive playoff berth.
