Mets Pursue John Mallee for Hitting Staff Opening
New York is exploring candidates to fill a hitting staff vacancy after director of hitting Jeff Albert is not expected to return in 2026.

The Mets have identified Cubs assistant hitting coach John Mallee as a candidate for a hitting staff role, joining Kevin Long on their interview list. Jeff Albert, who served as director of hitting, is not expected back, leaving the team to decide whether to hire above or below current hitting coach Troy Snitker. Mallee has over a decade of big league coaching experience with multiple clubs and is credited with helping develop Cubs center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong into an elite hitter. The Cubs posted a 114 wRC+ as a team in 2026, the best mark in the majors.
