Baltimore designated Nick Raquet for assignment and subsequently released him after he cleared unconditional release waivers. A trade was not possible because the deadline had passed, and an outright waiver assignment was blocked by his presence on the minor league injured list due to an elbow injury. Raquet becomes a free agent with limited MLB experience — 5 2/3 innings split between St. Louis and Baltimore — but a strong minor league résumé featuring a 2.90 ERA over 96 1/3 innings since last season. A reunion with the Orioles on a minor league deal is considered a possibility.
