The Phillies designated right-hander Brian Keller for assignment on August 19 to open a 40-man roster spot for lefty Nestor Cortes Jr. Keller cleared waivers and was outrighted to the minors on August 21. The 32-year-old made his MLB debut on July 25 but was optioned shortly after. He will be eligible for minor league free agency this offseason if not restored to the 40-man roster.
