Rays DFA Michael Grove to Make Room for Brody Hopkins
Tampa Bay officially designated the 29-year-old right-hander for assignment after he posted a 5.14 ERA in seven MLB innings this season.

The Rays announced the DFA of Michael Grove, who appeared in three games for Tampa Bay this year totaling seven innings with a 5.14 ERA. Grove missed over a year following shoulder surgery in March 2025 and had limited upside as a spot reliever for the club. The move clears a 40-man roster spot for Brody Hopkins, whose contract was selected the same day. Grove may clear waivers and elect free agency given a prior outright assignment, though doing so would forfeit remaining guaranteed money from his Rays deal.
