Roman Anthony's Right Hand Flares in ALWCS Game 1, Game 2 Status Unclear
Boston's leadoff DH exited Game 1 against the Yankees after recurring soreness in his previously injured right hand, clouding his playoff availability.

Roman Anthony was removed from the Red Sox lineup in the sixth inning of ALWCS Game 1 after his right hand flared up during checked swings in his first two at-bats. Manager Chad Tracy confirmed the discomfort postgame and said it was too early to know if Anthony would be available for Game 2. Anthony missed most of the 2025 season with a partially torn tendon in his right ring finger, returning only on August 30. Boston may consider an injury roster replacement if the soreness persists, which would sideline Anthony until the ALCS.
