The Yankees officially designated Oswaldo Cabrera for assignment on Wednesday. His roster spot was used to reinstate right-hander Clarke Schmidt, who had been on the 60-day injured list. Cabrera, 27, has served as a utility player for New York since 2023 but has appeared in only 11 major league plate appearances this season after missing most of 2025 with a fractured ankle and ligament damage. He posted a solid .289/.346/.447 line across 520 plate appearances at Triple-A Scranton this year.
