The Yankees designated Chase Hampton for assignment last week after he failed to stick in their bullpen. The Nationals claimed him off waivers and subsequently optioned him to their Double-A affiliate in Harrisburg. Hampton was one of several internal bullpen candidates New York had identified entering the season who did not pan out.
