Suspended games

A suspended game is not over and not erased — it is paused. Play resumes from the exact point of suspension on a later date, same score and situation, with the lineup carried forward as closely as the rules allow.

Key points

Resumption picks up mid-inning if that is where the game stopped — same count, same runners, same batting order slot.
Players no longer on the roster are simply replaced by substitutes; the original lineup spots are filled in order.
Statistics count only when the game is completed, and they are recorded as of the original date.
A suspended game is typically completed before the next scheduled game between the same clubs at that site.

Game suspended tied 4–4 in the seventh in May, completed when the clubs meet again in August.

Ruling · The box score belongs to May. The completion — even played by mostly different players — is recorded as part of the original game.

Why it moves the scoreboard

Creates box scores that finish weeks after they start — player stats and team records update retroactively on the original date.
