Burnes Returning to D-backs Rotation Tuesday After 15-Month Absence
Arizona will activate Corbin Burnes on Tuesday, with the ace expected to throw around 60 pitches in his first MLB start since June 2025.

Corbin Burnes has not appeared in the majors since undergoing Tommy John surgery in June 2025, with a subsequent teres major strain further delaying his return. Manager Torey Lovullo confirmed the activation plan, with Burnes slated to start Tuesday against the Royals on a roughly 60-pitch limit. He made only one rehab appearance, tossing two innings at Triple-A on August 29. Arizona holds a half-game NL Wild Card lead over San Diego and is counting on Burnes to bolster a rotation that ranks in the bottom ten by fWAR this season.
