The Rangers finalized a minor league contract with lefty reliever John King, a former Texas draftee who made 87 appearances for the club from 2020-23. Miami released King last week after his ERA ballooned post-All-Star Break, allowing 13 runs in 9.2 innings with declining sinker velocity (career-low 90.4 mph). King would be postseason-eligible if Texas qualifies, but faces stiff competition with at least five left-handers already ahead of him on the depth chart. He is viewed as a long shot to crack the playoff roster.
